Every year in Le Village Gai (The Gay Village) of Montreal, is a celebration of fetish pride. This year, Montreal Fetish Weekend is upon its 13th annual event running a grand total of 6 kinky days and nights. Now that’s what we like to call a party! We caught up with Eric Paradis and Candace Chartrand, two of the main producers responsible for the wildly-exciting event, and even Le Village Gai’s own President, Bernard Plante. It’s the most anticipated event of the year that you don’t want to miss.
“From the get-go, we conceived the event as a warm and friendly place where everyone and all are treated equally with attention and respect. It was initially designed to be a small inclusive party for people, models, designers, photographers, and talented artists, and it grew into a city-wide, friendly celebration of our fetish pride.” – Eric Paradis
With a jam-packed schedule filled with kinky events and after parties, it can be difficult to attend every happening, which is why guests and the community come back year after year, looking forward to each new edition. This year, MFW is welcoming the heavy rubber bondage model Anna Rose, along with Germany’s own, Miss Fetilicious. You can look forward to sponsors like Patrice Catanzaro with the Kinky Picnic, Montreal’s own Il Bolero, and Whiplr. There’s a little something there for everybody.
The end of summer event is on its 5th year as part of the Gay Village’s 5-month pedestrian celebration, called the Aires Libres. Bernard Plante is more than proud to include the Montreal Fetish Weekend each year, “The event has consistently generated an important tourist attraction and appeal in our area and, in time, has become sort of an institution of the genre. Montreal has never been a “traditional” city and Le Village Gai is a very open and embracing community.”
One of the most unique events that you can look forward to is the annual Mode en Folie, the grandiose fetish fashion show that takes place outside in the streets. Candace adds, “We had the concept of doing a fashion show on the notorious Ste. Catherine street, and it kind of caught on fire. As we were expanding, it was difficult finding venues that could accommodate everyone in a traditional, sit-down, fashion show. When people hear about it, they sort of gasp, not knowing what it is. We’re trying to get away from that stigma, showing exactly what it is, and its beauty. The fashion show is the vehicle we use to illustrate that beauty.” The show is different in the sense that it’s open to the public for free and there’s no dress code. Crowds line the streets in anticipation for the family-friendly event that leads up to the Starwalk Red Carpet and Latextacy Sexy Kink Ball, taking place that Saturday evening. Other events throughout the 6-day celebration include the annual kinky picnic, expos and workshops, the fetish photo walk tour, play parties, nightly after parties, and an extraordinary, special concept farewell dinner. The Monday night dinner is playing on the city’s vibe that night, a vibe that may have you going Gaga.
